Decaf Coffee
Bag Sizes | 250g , 1kg |
---|
Our current decaf is a blend of washed caturra and castillo grown by the El Carmen group of producers based around the village of Acevedo in the Huila region of Colombia. It’s soft and sweet, with notes of demerara sugar and baked apple, reminding us of that most comforting of desserts, apple crumble.

Origin Story
We source this coffee through our importing partner Raw Material, a community interest company that exists to maximise the profits of the producers that they work with.
Raw Material started buying coffee from El Carmen in 2017, and over the years have done incredible work to help improve the producers’ livelihoods, not just through direct payments, but through investment in infrastructure, that we were able to witness first hand during our visit in 2022.
The coffee itself is hand-sorted and processed at each individual farm, before being sent to Descafecol in Manizales for decaffeination by way of the Sugar Cane EA Process. This involves placing the coffee in a solution of water and ethyl acetate, a naturally occurring compound derived through the fermentation of sugar cane.
Aside from resulting in the tastiest decaf coffee we have tried to date, this process also keeps the carbon footprint to a minimum, with the solvent being derived from the domestic sugar cane industry, and the process occurring within Colombia (as opposed to Europe or North America), which also benefits the domestic economy.
